Cavan Sports Partnership (CSP) operates with a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective management to ensure the delivery of high-quality sport and physical activity programmes across the county. As a key driver of sporting opportunities and community engagement, the governance structure of CSP is designed to facilitate responsible decision-making, strategic planning, and positive outcomes for the local community.

Governance refers to the system by which Cavan Sports Partnership is directed, controlled, and held accountable. It includes the processes and relationships through which we are led and monitored, ensuring that we operate in a transparent and ethical manner while achieving our objectives. Good governance supports the delivery of CSP’s mission by promoting fairness, openness, and integrity in all aspects of its operations.

Cavan Sports Partnership complies with the Sport Ireland Governance Code for Sport and Code of Corporate Governance for Local Authorities.

Cavan Sports Partnership Advisory Committee

The Cavan Sports Partnership advisory committee is responsible for the overall governance of CSP, overseeing strategic direction and the implementation of the Active Cavan; A Local Sports Plan for Cavan 2025 – 2030 , decision-making, and the effective allocation of resources. The committee is composed of representatives from a wide range of sectors, including local authorities, education, sports organisations, and community groups, all working together to enhance sport and physical activity within Cavan.

Cavan Sports Partnership also utilises a number of advisory groups and committees to provide expertise and guidance on specific areas of sport and physical activity. These groups help ensure that CSP’s initiatives are grounded in best practices and are responsive to the needs of the community. Currently CSP have two active committees:

  • Inclusion Committee: this group focus on ensuring that CSP’s programmes are inclusive and accessible to people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, and other underrepresented groups.
  • Sports Development Network: These groups provide advice and support in the areas of coaching, training & education, and provide a forum whereby sporting coaches and volunteers can come together to network and plan towards the growth of sports clubs and community initiatives.

Cavan Sports Partnership Staff

The CSP team, led by the Sports Partnership Manager, is responsible for the implementation of the board’s decisions, ensuring that all programmes and activities are delivered to a high standard. The team works collaboratively with schools, community organizations, clubs, and volunteers to bring sport and physical activity opportunities to people across Cavan.

Key Responsibilities of the Staff:

  • Programme Delivery: The team organizes and runs sport and physical activity programmes across various demographics, including primary schools, secondary schools, clubs, and marginalized communities.
  • Partnership Development: CSP staff work closely with local sports organizations, government bodies, and community groups to establish partnerships that benefit the local population.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Staff regularly assess the impact of CSP programmes, using data and feedback to improve service delivery and meet the needs of the community.

Engagement with Stakeholders

Cavan Sports Partnership is deeply committed to listening to and engaging with the local community. Our governance structure encourages active participation from stakeholders, ensuring that decisions reflect the needs and aspirations of the people of Cavan.

Key Stakeholders Include:

  • Local Government: As a local authority Local Sports Partnership, CSP works closely with Cavan County Council and to ensure alignment with both local and national actions for the County.
  • Schools and Education Providers: We partner with schools, universities, and other educational bodies to promote physical activity among young people in the school environment.
  • Local Sports Clubs and Organizations: We collaborate with a wide variety of sports clubs and community groups to increase participation and provide opportunities for people to get involved in physical activity.
  • Volunteers and Coaches: CSP supports the recruitment, training, and development of volunteers and coaches who are essential to the delivery of sporting programmes.
  • National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) of Sport: CSP partners with NGB’s to promote and develop individual sports throughout the county of Cavan. This can be through, co-funded officers, activation officers and partnership programmes and initiatives.
